CAMPERDOWN

Camperdown is an inner western suburb of Sydney, located 4 kilometres south-west of the CBD. Taking its name from the Battle of Camperdown (or Camperduin in Dutch), it was established as a residential and farming area in the early 19th century. Camperdown lies across the local government areas of the City of Sydney and Inner West Council.

Camperdown is home to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPA), the largest hospital in the region, and The University of Sydney, which is the oldest university in Australia. With an abundance of stylish cafés, bistros, pubs and restaurants throughout the area, Camperdown draws a cosmopolitan crowd, as well as the local thriving student culture.

The housing in Camperdown is largely Victorian terraced housing, including many examples of single storey terraces. Semi-detached houses, which became popular around the time of Australia's Federation, are also common in Camperdown. Most modern developments tend to be sympathetic with the traditional Victorian and Edwardian streetscapes.
